A Year of Giving with Lenny's Shoe & Apparel
The generosity of the customers we serve never ceases to amaze us. You allow us to donate to non-profit organizations that support folks in our communities. Here is a snapshot of local charities you helped support last year by shopping with us.
We kicked off February with the Olympic spirit. Customers participated in the 6th annual Special Olympics donation event. Those that donated $5 received 20% off of a regular priced item. Collectively, we raised $4,029 for Special Olympics Vermont and Special Olympics New York. By supporting our local athletes with intellectual disabilities, we shared the joy of sport within our communities.
In March, Lenny’s held the first ever Boots ‘n Beer event. We teamed up with 14th Star Brewing Company to offer free beer tastings. Through the purchase of raffle tickets, our customers helped to raise $710 for the Samaritan House in St. Albans. The Samaritan House is a non-profit organization that provides emergency shelter, transitional housing, and support services to people and families within Franklin-Grand Isle Counties.
During our second Boots ‘n Beer event in June, we teamed up with Goodwater Brewery at our Williston location. Through the purchase of raffle tickets, our customers raised $645 for the Greater New England Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. This organization looks to improve the quality of life for people affected by MS and raise funds for critical MS research. Due to popular demand, we will be hosting three more Boots ‘n Beer events starting this month. Visit our Facebook page for event details.
September brought the 7th annual Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Sock Sale. This three-day event is a joint effort with Darn Tough Vermont and Smartwool. Lenny’s pledged a monetary donation for every pair of Darn Tough Vermont and Smartwool purchased. At the end sale, not only did Darn Tough Vermont and Smartwool provide boxes of socks for donation, we were able to donate over $13,000 worth of socks and support to local homeless shelters.
Through our 8th Annual Charity Sale in October, we knocked it out of the park for the Vermont Foodbank and the JCEO Plattsburgh Food Shelf by raising $11,650, collectively. Lenny’s customers purchased 2018 Lenny’s Calendars which contained an exclusive Charity Sale VIP coupon. 100% proceeds from each calendar sold went directly to these non-profit organizations. The Vermont Foodbank serves 153,000 Vermonters by securing donations of food and funds and distributing them statewide to network partners. JCEO is a private, not-for-profit human service agency that serves the residents of Clinton and Franklin Counties.
In December, we teamed up with The Salvation Army and Star 92.9 to help make the holiday season a little brighter for over 1,000 children in our communities through the Christmas is for Kids Angel Tag program. The outpouring of holiday spirit was awe-inspiring. Every day during the collection period, our bins were full to bursting - and frequently took over our stock rooms!
These are just the highlights. Due to the generosity of our customers and vendors, we were also able to donate funds and product to countless area schools, local non-profits, veterans, community outreach organizations, humane societies and many more throughout the entire year.
Overall, we donated over $30,000 to our local community in 2017. Without our customers, we wouldn’t be able to support the organizations that help our neighbors. Thank you for shopping with us and for your overwhelming generosity. We look forward to continuing to help our neighbors in need this year.
