WILLISTON, VT - Lenny's Shoe & Apparel, its customers and dedicated staff have helped collect more than 36,000 pairs of shoes for donation to micro-entrepreneurs in the developing world.

Lenny's initiated a company-wide shoe recycling program last April in association with Rerun Shoes, based in Amherst, MA. Lenny's encouraged customers to ‘recycle' their gently used shoes for reuse to promote sustainable business in West Africa. This week, Rerun Shoes recognized Lenny's for promoting environmentally sustainable business practices.

“Rerun Shoes is a social enterprise with an environmental mission.  With help from companies like Lenny's Shoe & Apparel, we divert usable shoes from the waste stream in North America to reuse in African markets,” said Michael Aronson, President of Rerun Shoes. “Rerun supplies micro-entrepreneurs in Mali, Guinea and Liberia with shoes they refurbish and bring to market. These recycled shoes provide small scale entrepreneurs the ability to earn an income offering affordable footwear to their customers.”

There is still time to get involved with Lenny's shoe recycling program. Customers can drop off their gently used shoes to any of Lenny's three locations in Williston, Barre or St. Albans. See a list of the types of shoes Lenny's can accept.
